Will it be possible to construct a seed AI or otherwise to engineer initial conditions so as to make an intelligence explosion survivable? How could one achieve a controlled detonation? To get closer to an answer to this question, we must make our way through a fascinating landscape of topics and considerations. As the fate of the gorillas now depends more on us humans than on the gorillas themselves, so the fate of our species then would come to depend on the actions of the machine superintelligence. But we have one advantage: we get to make the first move. Other animals have stronger muscles or sharper claws, but we have cleverer brains. If machine brains one day come to surpass human brains in general intelligence, then this new superintelligence could become very powerful. It is to these distinctive capabilities that our species owes its dominant position. The human brain has some capabilities that the brains of other animals lack.

5/13/2023 0 Comments Kat cho booksWhat is it about a gumiho that you really wanted to write about? I also really admire the wit and dialogue inn Sarah Rees Brennan’s The Lynburn Legacy trilogy. Like the food in The Wrath and the Dawn, the female relationships in Serpentine, the growing pains in Percy Jackson, the contemporary settings with magical atmosphere in Darkest Part of the Forest, and literally EVERYTHING in Laini Taylor’s Daughter of Smoke and Bone series feels like you’re meeting old friends and experiencing something magical at the same time. I love how they weave magical elements into things that could feel every day to us. I would never claim to write like any of them, but they definitely are a constant inspiration with each new book of theirs I read. I am also very much influenced by amazing storytellers like Renee Ahdieh, Cindy Pon, Rick Riordan, Holly Black and Laini Taylor. K-dramas that influenced Wicked Fox directly include Goblin, Oh My Ghostess, School 2013. I love how character based they are without losing any of the high adrenaline from action and fast-paced plot. I was definitely influenced by the storytelling in anime and Korean dramas. What books, TV shows, or movies inspired you to write Wicked Fox? In this stop of the WICKED FOX Blog Tour, we asked author Kat Cho all about her debut book and gumiho of Korean myth, as well as details on Korean food, TV, and music! 5/13/2023 0 Comments The dovekeepersAziza is a warrior’s daughter, raised as a boy, a fearless rider and ex- pert marksman who finds passion with a fellow soldier. Revka, a village baker’s wife, watched the murder of her daughter by Roman soldiers she brings to Masada her young grandsons, rendered mute by what they have witnessed. Yael’s mother died in childbirth, and her father, an expert assassin, never forgave her for that death. Based on this tragic and iconic event, Hoffman ’ s novel is a spellbinding tale of four extraordinarily bold, resourceful, and sensuous women, each of whom has come to Masada by a different path. According to the ancient historian Josephus, two women and five children survived. Nearly two thousand years ago, nine hundred Jews held out for months against armies of Romans on Masada, a mountain in the Judean desert. Is Alice Hoffman’s most ambitious and mesmer- izing novel, a tour de force of research and imagination. Jack seems such a charmer but his true colours are revealed almost as soon as they are married. The past isn’t very far in the past, just around two years, back when Jack first met Grace who was in the park with her much younger sister Millie, who has Down’s Syndrome. The story is told over two timescales, past and present. It is clear that something very strange is going on but you don’t quite realise what at first. This is one of these compelling books that will grab you right from the first pages. You never see Grace without Jack, she never answers the house phone, doesn’t have a mobile and often cancels lunch arrangements with her friends at the last minute – or Jack joins them. Grace is elegant, an excellent cook with a healthy appetite though somehow manages to remain very slim. On the outside they appear to be the perfect couple: Jack’s a successful good-looking lawyer, Grace gave up work when they got married. As the old saying goes, nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors and my goodness nobody would guess what was going on in Jack and Grace Angel’s home. 5/13/2023 0 Comments The love songs of duboisSince childhood, Ailey Pearl Garfield has understood Du Bois's words all too well. Du Bois, once wrote about the Problem of race in America, and what he called "Double Consciousness," a sensitivity that every African American possesses in order to survive. The NAACP Image Award-winning poet makes her fiction debut with this magisterial epic-an intimate yet sweeping novel with all the luminescence and force of Homegoing Sing, Unburied, Sing and The Water Dancer-that chronicles the journey of one American family, from the centuries of the colonial slave trade through the Civil War to our own tumultuous era. I was just enraptured by the lineage and the story of this modern African-American family. Finalist for the Kirkus Prize for Fiction. The murder gets under Ponyboy's skin, causing his bifurcated world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels the same whether a soc or a greaser. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers-until one terrible night when his friend Johnny kills a soc. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. The novel tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis and his struggles with right and wrong in a society in which he believes that he is an outsider. The Outsiders is about two weeks in the life of a 14-year-old boy. 5/13/2023 0 Comments Royals hawkinsWhile the dashing young Miles has been appointed to teach Daisy the ropes of being regal, the prince’s roguish younger brother kicks up scandal wherever he goes, and tries his best to take Daisy along for the ride. Daisy has no desire to live in the spotlight, but relentless tabloid attention forces her join Ellie at the relative seclusion of the castle across the pond. She’s an offbeat sixteen-year-old Floridian with mermaid-red hair, a part time job at a bootleg Walmart, and a perfect older sister who’s nearly engaged to the Crown Prince of Scotland. I loved her Hex Hall and Rebel Belle series (and she’s also written a middle grade I’m sure we should all check out). But it’s more than that–I raced through Rachel Hawkins’s ROYALS in two nights, laughing out loud much of the time. When I finish a book with a huge grin on my face, it obviously deserves a review. I reject this with every cell in my body and plan to scrub this revisionist history from my memory forevermore I hate that he had a child with some random woman and that the child grows into a man who looks more like him than his children with Evie. I can’t properly convey how much I hated this. Sebastian had fathered a child before he met Evie. Yes, the title is a huge tip-off but I was holding out hope that Lisa wouldn’t do me like this The revelation came around the middle of the book but by then I already knew that no twist was coming. Needless to say, I was thrilled to see him reappear in Ravenel’s series and to see his children get their own HEA’s.įirst, I’ll address the huge Scot elephant in the room. Vincent became my book husband that day and has been ever since. I read the book in one sitting and then turned back to page one and re-read it again. Here’s what one Goodreads reviewer said in her review:įourteen years ago, I drove like a madwoman an hour away to my nearest B&N with a cranky teething baby to get my hands on Devil in Winter on release day. There was recently a hullabaloo about Devil in Disguise, Lisa Kleypas’ historical romance, around the time of its release in July.
